Exploits Of The Southwell Detective Agency



A Surprise To The Destined
Due to the recent backlog of unsolved cases his majesty's government decides to offer a 200£ reward for private investigators to provide evidence sufficient to close a case. The Southwell detective agency is formed as a partnership between Inspector Johnathan Southwell (retired) and Lord Marcell Wilkinson. Several interesting characters are hired including Inspector Xavior York who is chosen to lead.

The detectives quickly find themselves wrapped up in a string of killings around the (insert_name) house. After visiting a nursing home and a church late one evening the inspector and his crew rush to the (insert_name) manor. Shortly thereafter gunshots are heard from within the house. Mr (insert_name) is found dead. Mrs (insert_name) must be committed to an asylum due the traumatic nature of her husband's death. And, a large animal is said to have been removed from the street although no carcass is ever presented for identification.



The Mist Witches Part One
The Southwell Detective Agency is honored to be hired by Lord Hollis Darton to investigate the disappearances of several young ladies. Several bodies are found which appear to be dehydrated. The detectives investigate the gypsy camp outside of town. No charges are brought. However Lord Darton appears to be satisfied.



Holiday Horror
After speaking with the gypsies Inspector York suddenly schedules a holiday. He travels to the south with some unexpected companions.



Maxwell's Silver Hammer
The detectives investigate murders near the university downtown. Maxwell Eddison is eventually charged. Although he is shot and killed after managing to kill the judge at his own trial.



Emissaries
On a dark night several strange creatures are spotted moving through the city.



Temple Of The Dark Muses
The detectives are hired by Museum Curator Oliver Vail to investigate the disappearance of patrons from the Willsbane Museum. It is reported that the detectives determined Mr Vail and many of the stewards of the museum to be criminally insane. They are currently missing. There exist warrants for their arrest.



Larvae
The Southwell Detective Agency becomes involved in an active case when several bodies filled with maggots are discovered. The investigation leads them to the White Rabbit, a local pub which also turns out to be an opium den. There is a violent confrontation with the proprietor, Michael Swan.



Forensic Archaeology
Our protagonists search through the home of the late Lady Rachel Brendenson. The bodies of Lord and Lady Chandler as well as several commoners are recovered from a subterranean torture chamber. A very pregnant (and alive) Lady Adrian Welstone is rescued from the house.



The Mist Witches Part Two
The Southwell Detective Agency leaves town to investigate the dehydrated bodies found earlier. During the night the gypsies riot and attempt to attack the city. Suspiciously the detectives do not make it back to town until dawn.



The Sins Of The Father
The detectives investigate a rash of patricide in the city of Willsbane. On an unrelated note the Brendenson house explodes in the middle of the night.



Dark Gambit
Many people report strange happenings near the intersection of Dover and Poppler streets. Fires are seen in that area. Many people are reported missing the next day. Rumors persist that the Inspector Southwell and his Agency are involved in these strange happenings.



Familia Corvidae
A series of strange murders occur across town. The victims all seem to have been peculiar in some manner. A young man by the name of Seymore Rose is arrested for these murders. However he manages to escape when a fire breaks out in the 13th precinct house.



Of Slaves And Kings
Lord Wilkinson hires the Southwell Detective Agency to investigate some suspicious activity in the graveyard on the grounds of the church on Old Mill Road. There are reports that the detectives discovered occult activity in the catacombs below.



Thurmond
A young lawyer chooses to defend Inspector York in a tort brought against him by Lady Lowenthal. Lord Darton again hires the Agency to investigate the comings and goings of a cloaked man who sometimes appears in the cemetery on Old Mill Road. The location of the man's dwelling is determined however before a warrant can be issued a shootout erupts at the house. The good father, Wilford O'Mallory is slain in the shootout. The house yields some interesting clues, but the cloaked man is never found.



The Followers Of Tantilla Part One
The Southwell Detective Agency is hired by the church to investigate what they believe to be occult activities taking place in bunkers around town. Cultists worshiping some type of snake diety are discovered in the bunkers and killed.



The Exchequer
The Exchequer is kidnaped and the Southwell Detective Agency secretly looks into his disappearance. When they rescue him from the newly discovered Cult Of The Black Hand they are hailed as heros and receive a monetary award from the exchequer himself.



The Followers Of Tantilla Part Two
The remnants of the cult are discovered in the sewers below Willsbane and the detectives successfully root it out.



Jail Break
A strange foreigner is discovered is discovered on the brink of death. He is taken in by Sister Cadbury. For an unknown reason the guards are called into the streets that night.



Egress
A warrant is issued for the arrest of many (but not all) members of the Southwell Detective Agency. They are alleged to have escaped town on a southbound locomotive.



The First Days Of Sekhet-Hetepet
After a flight through a bank of mist the detectives find themselves in a strange foreign land filled with red dusty sand. They encounter some strange natives and make their way to a a city. On their way through the desert they find that everyone in this place (including themselves) falls completely unconscious at the exact moment the sun sets.



Gin
The remaining members of the Southwell Detective Agency meet Humphry Dobson who is also a foreigner in these parts. They take shelter in his home and drink with him at The Dusty Sandals. They are contacted by a member of one of the strange local religions who promises knowledge of what happens in the night if the detectives will travel with him to an ancient ruined temple. They agree and travel with him out of town.



With The Eyes Of The Blind
After being chased through the desert by vicious savages called "hunters" the detectives arrive at the temple. Many strange discoveries are made in the temple.



The Chosen One Of Ankhef
The detectives escape from the temple even though it is surrounded by dozens of the barbarous "hunters". They then make their way to a temple of a sun god.



From The Jaws Of Death
The detectives return to the desert city of Sukhana. They find the streets of the city filled with the bodies of the dead. They take refuge with a strange messianic cult as a sand storm approaches. However at the last moment they leave their shelter. They manage to escape this strange land, however Inspectors York and Southwell are lost in the process.



Sternsburg
The detectives find themselves in a denesely wooded area. They make their way to a small village. In the village they meet several important families and are invited to stay in the mayor's house. Just as they are settleing in several murders occur. Two old ladies outside the town are killed and a young lady within the town falls victim to a most grotesque murder. The detectives begin their investigation.



Sweet Whispers in the Night
The detecitves continue their investigation. Young Ambrose disapears without warning. Fear grips the small town as the murders continue. Strange poetry is found at the scenes of the murders. Eventually the murderer is slain while attempting to commit yet another crime.



The Family Duvall
Several strange facts concerning the murder, Frederick Talbert, and his murders haunt the detectives. They continue to investigate. Several important persons in the town are accused and a riot ensues when the popular Counselwoman Duvall is implicated. The detectives are chased out of town.



Decay
The detectives find themselves in a large city called Port au Rose-Croix. It is in a shamefull state of repair and the inhabitants are largely missing or paranoid lunatics. The detectives waste no time in securing passage on a boat to take them away from the dreadful place. However, their boat does not leave for some time so they take up squatting in one of the large abandoned bulidings. On their first night they are attacked by what appears to be a man-sized rat. Fortunately Thomas Denley and young Doctor Hennesy show up at the last minute and help to dispatch the foul creature.



Chairity Jolicoeur
News of the detectives victory over one of the rat creature spreads. Soon they are approached by the resistance. They agree to help and are asked to retreive some silver items from an abandoned silver mine outside of the city. A lovely young lady calling herself Chairity Jolicoeur is sent along as their guide. After fighting through the considerable defenses of the silver mine they discover that it serves as a prison to a very large rat, named Shadarach, that seems to be able to speak. They decide against freeing it, take what they have come for, and return to the resistance headquarters.
